Rule Shines as Men's Golf Opens SunTrust Gator Invitational Play

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Mercer junior Trey Rule fired rounds of even-par 70 and 3-under 67 to headline the men's golf team in Saturday's opening 36 holes at the SunTrust Gator Invitational. As a team, Mercer's two-round total of 573 has the Bears in second place on the leaderboard.
Mercer will begin Sunday's final round just three strokes behind Arkansas for the tournament lead. Rounding out the top five are Florida State (576), Vanderbilt (577) and Georgia Southern (583).
Rule leads the 75-player field with a two-round total of 137 after collecting 10 birdies in 36 holes of play. His second round 67 tied North Florida's Taylor Hancock and Liberty's Chase Marinell for low-round honors on Saturday.
Rule maintains a two-stroke lead on second placed Hank Lebioda of Florida State entering Sunday. Senior Hans Reimers is part of a three-way tie for third place after closing Saturday's play with a score of 141.
Reimers was steady on Saturday, firing rounds of 1-over 71 and even-par 70. Freshman Emmanuel Kountakis is tied for 27th after shooting 78-69 while his classmate Sean Smothers is tied for 34th after posting scores of 76 and 72.
Sophomore Evan Usry rounded out Mercer's competitors with scores of 80 and 77 and is tied for 71st place.
The final round of the SunTrust Gator Invitational is slated for an 8 a.m. start Sunday.
