Rule Shares Individual Medalist Honors at SunTrust Gator Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Junior men's golfer Trey Rule fired a 1-under 69 in Sunday's final round of the SunTrust Gator Invitational to capture a share of individual medalist honors at Mark Bostick Golf Course. Rule's three-round total of 206 was 4-under par and led Mercer to a tie for fifth place in the team standings.
Mercer shot 295 on Sunday to complete the tournament in a tie with UAB at 868. Arkansas (849) took home the team title while Florida State (855), Vanderbilt (858) and UCF (863) finished as the top four.
Rule paired his Sunday 69 with scores of 70 and 67 on Saturday to tie Florida State's Hank Lebioda for the tournament's individual championship. The placement marked Rule's best career finish and was his second top-five finish of the 2013-14 academic year.
Senior Hans Reimers closed the event at 213 on the heels of a Sunday 72 to tie for eighth place. Reimers has now posted top-10 finishes in four of six events as a senior.
Freshman Emmanuel Kountakis and sophomore Evan Usry both shot 77 on Sunday while freshman Sean Smothers carded a 78. Kountakis tied for 50th place at 224, Smothers came in tied for 56th at 226 and Usry took home a tie for 73rd at 234.
Mercer returns to competitive play at the USF Invitational on March 2. The three-day event is hosted by South Florida at Lake Jovita Country Club in Dade City, Fla.
