Seniors Lead Men's Golf to Seminole Intercollegiate Title

TALLAHASEE, Fla. – Mercer seniors Hans Reimers and James Beale each registered top-five individual finishes to help the men's golf team capture the Seminole Intercollegiate tournament title on Saturday at Southwood Golf Course.
As a team, Mercer posted team scores of 279 and 295 to close the event at 856 and outlast 12 other teams for the tournament title. Host Florida State and South Florida tied for second place at 862 while North Carolina (872) finished fourth and Troy and Mississippi State tied for fifth at 873.
Reimers shot 4-under 68 and and 1-over 73 in Saturday's second and third rounds to notch his third top-five placement of the 2013-14 academic year. His 54-hole total of 211 was just one stroke behind individual medalist, Trey Valentine of South Florida.
Beale carded a 2-under 70 and an even-par 72 in his second and third rounds to finish as part of a five-way tie for fifth place at 213. The performance marked Beale's third top-five placement of the season.
Junior Trey Rule tied for 12th place after shooting even-par 72 and 3-over 75 on Saturday. He finished the event with a three-round total of 213. Freshman Emmanuel Kountakis tied for 21st place overall at 219 after carding a 1-under 71 and a 4-over 75 Saturday.
Freshman Sean Smothers rounded out Mercer's competitors in 48th place. Smothers collected scores of 70 and 84 on Saturday after shooting 72 on Friday.
Mercer also finished first in the Brickyard Collegiate on Oct. 6 and has now placed fifth or better in seven of eight events during the 2013-14 academic year.
The Bears continue the spring season co-hosting the Linger Longer Invitational on March 22-23. The two-day event is set to be held at the Great Waters Golf Course in Eatonton, Ga.
