Men's Golf Tied for Fourth at USF Invitational

MACON, Ga. – Freshman Emmanuel Kountakis fired a 7-under 65 to lead the Mercer men's golf team in a solid first round performance at the USF Invitational. Kountakis' Sunday 65 left the freshman in a tie for second place individually while Mercer's team score of 280 has the Bears tied for fourth on the leaderboard.
UNC Greensboro and Florida State are tied for the overall lead with Sunday scores of 275, while Memphis is two strokes behind the lead. Mercer will enter Monday's second round one stroke ahead of South Florida.
Kountakis fired eight birdies on Sunday, including three in the first four holes of the event. Senior Hans Reimers is tied for 17th place indidually after carding a 2-under 70, while junior Trey Rule is tied for 37th overall after posting an even-par 72.
Senior James Beale signed for a 73 and is tied for 45th while freshman Sean Smothers is tied for 65th after shooting 75.
Monday's second round is slated to begin at 9 a.m.
