SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Sophomore Liza Klyachkin scored the match deciding point sending the Mercer University women's tennis team to the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament for the first time since 2010 on Saturday at the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.
Mercer (10-12, 4-3 A-Sun) started the dual off by getting the doubles point against USC Upstate (2-18, 1-6 A-Sun). The No. 1 pair of Danielle Jones and Lucie Payrat and the No. 3 pair of Natalie Franklin and Haley Powell delivered the doubles victory for the Bears.
After Franklin then won her singles match, Upstate fired back with two straight singles victories to tie the match at two. Powell won her single and Upstate won another to set the stage for Klyachkin's victory to push Mercer over the hump.
Mercer will finish the regular season at East Tennessee State on Saturday with a start time of 2:00 p.m.
