JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The Mercer women's golf team will sleep on the lead at the Atlantic Sun Championship for a second consecutive night after Tuesday's second round was washed out by heavy rainfall at Pine Lakes Golf Course.
Mercer stormed into the lead at the event with an opening round 294 on Monday, finishing the day three strokes ahead of Kennesaw State for the overall lead. On Tuesday, the second round was suspended after Mercer players had only completed between four and six holes of competition.
The Bears did extend their lead on second placed Kennesaw State by one stroke during Tuesday's partial round. The conference office has announced that the second round will conclude on Wednesday morning, following immediately by the final round.
Senior Mary Alice Murphy birdied the third hole on Tuesday morning to move into a tie for the individual lead with Kennesaw State's Kaew Preamchuen. Both Murphy and Preamchuen stand at even-par through 22 holes of play.
If Mercer can hold onto its lead, the Bears would clinch the first conference championship in program history and earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
