JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Mercer men's soccer team snapped a scoring drought that lasted over a month in the Bears' 3-2 loss to the Jacksonville Dolphins on Tuesday evening.
Eli Bannister scored Mercer's first goal since September 13 in the sixth minute of Tuesday's match against Jacksonville. The sophomore from Fayetteville, Georgia, found the net for the second time on the evening in the 44th minute to secure a brace before heading into halftime.
After the Bears opened the scoring in the opening minutes, Jacksonville equalized in the 34th minute before Bannister's second goal. Out of the break, Jake Waters responded with a brace of his own and scored in the 63rd and 79th minutes. Bannister received a red card shortly after Jacksonville took the lead, and the Bears were kept off the scoreboard for the remainder of the match.
Michael Roth made his first start at the collegiate level and saved two shots in the first half. Tolu Adeyemi logged 90 minutes and notched the first assist of his collegiate career on Bannister's opening goal of the night. AJ Pama, Bryce Griffith, Colton Ellison and Andrew Seward joined Adeyemi as Mercer's other position players to play the entirety of Tuesday's match.
