SERIES HISTORY
The two programs share 20 meetings since 2010, and Mercer bolsters a perfect 20-0 record in those contests. With the Bears' offensive struggles this season, a match against VMI could be exactly what the doctor ordered, as Mercer has 66 total goals when facing the Keydets. Last season, Fernando Arteaga and Junior Casillas found the back of the net and delivered a 2-0 win in the Bears' home finale.
LAST TIME OUT
Mercer (0-11-4, 0-3-2 SoCon) ended a scoring drought that lasted over a month in a 3-2 loss at Jacksonville this past Tuesday. The Bears found the back of the net for the first time since September 13, in the sixth minute of this Tuesday's match. After the Dolphins equalized, Mercer scored again in the 44th minute to take the momentum into the break. Jacksonville's Jake Waters scored a brace in the second half to secure the Dolphins' win.
SCOUTING THE KEYDETS
The beginning of league play completely derailed VMI's season as the Keydets are winless in their last eight matches. VMI rides a three-match losing streak after falling to Wofford, Furman and UNC Greensboro with a -10 goal differential across that span. Yeirin Mejia and Jaden Moore lead the Keydets with six goals apiece. Sam Dowdy leads VMI with five assists. Three different keepers have stepped in between the pipes for VMI this season, but Santiago Rocha has served as the primary netminder with 55 saves in 12 appearances this year.
Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 24 at Patchin Field. You can follow along with Live Stats or by following us on socials: X: @Mercer_MSoccer | Instagram: @mercermsoccer.
