Men's Golf Ties for Third at Mason Rudolph

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The Mercer men's golf team posted a 3-under 281 in Sunday's final round of the Mason Rudolph Championship to capture a tie for third place on the team leaderboard. Senior James Beale highlighted the team's showing at the event, tying for fifth place with a three-day total of 212.
Mercer closed the event with a tournament score of 865, equaling the effort of Louisville and falling nine strokes shy of tournament host Vanderbilt. Alabama won the team title after needing only 847 strokes over three days.
Beale's second top-five of the season saw him finish particularly strong, playing the final 14 holes 5-under. The surge included an eagle on 18 that closed his Sunday round at 4-under 67.
Beale collected scores of 71 and 74 on Friday and Saturday to register his second top-five placement of the season.
Freshman Sean Smothers also closed nicely, shooting 2-under 69 on Sunday to capture a tie for 12th place individually. Smothers shot 75 on Friday and 71 on Saturday en route to finishing just one stroke outside the top-10.
Junior Trey Rule posted a 73 in the final round after using 143 strokes in the first 36 holes. His three-day total of 216 placed him in a tie for 17th overall. Senior Hans Reimers improved on his Saturday total by three strokes, firing a 1-over 72 in the final round. His tournament toal of 226 placed him in a tie for 47th.
Freshman Emmanuel Kountakis rounded out Mercer's competitors with a tie for 49th at 227. Kountakis had two rounds of 75 sandwich a Saturday 77.
Mercer now heads to the Atlantic Sun Championship, which will be contested over three days at the Legends Course of Chateau Elan. The event is scheduled to begin on Sunday, April 20.
