Harris Leads Field at UNCG Forest Oaks Fall Classic

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Mercer sophomore Katy Harris needed only 142 strokes, thanks in part to an ace in round one, to finish Monday's opening 36 holes of the UNCG Forest Oaks Fall Classic atop the individual leaderboard. As a team, Mercer compiled a team score of 610 to close the day in sixth place.
Mercer will enter Tuesday's final round just one stroke behind host UNC Greensboro for fifth place and 11 strokes behind Elon for the tournament lead. Rollins, James Madison and Maryland are tied for second at 608.
Harris got off to a hot start on Monday, carding a hole-in-one on the 172-yard par-3 third hole en route to a 2-under 70. Harris came back to finish the day's proceedings with an even-par 72 in the second round.
The sophomore currently leads 95 other competitors and will begin the final round two strokes ahead of second-placed Alexandra Papell of Maryland.
Sophomore Marin Hanna is tied for 23rd place after posting rounds of 75 and 78. Senior Sarah Louie Brown is part of an eight-way tie for 46th place after shooting 82-76 on Monday.
Freshman Hannah Mae Deems is currently tied for 54th with rounds of 81 and 78, while senior Meredith Owen is tied for 69th 162 after shooting 80-82.
Tuesday's final round is slated for an 8:30 a.m. start.
