THE BEARS IN THE TEAM STANDINGS
Mercer carded a 22-over-par 310 in the second round to move past Georgia Southern, Northern Illinois and Old Dominion on its way to second place with two-day tally of 623. The host team, Campbell, leads the field with 607 strokes through the first two rounds.
COACH DRINKARD'S TAKE
"Mary played solid again today finishing with two birdies on her last three holes. Each round Mary is gaining more and more confidence on this golf course."
"It was also nice to see the team score a couple of shots better. Our energy is good and I'm excited about another opportunity to play Keith Hills' Golf Course."
MERCER SPOTLIGHT
Janiga continued her run at the top of the leaderboard, using back-to-back birdies on No. 16 and No. 17 to finish with a one-over 73 on Monday. She leads the field with nine birdies including a tournament-best three on par-3 holes.
HOLE OF THE DAY
The hole of the day came in an unorthodox fashion, as the team kept it loose during warm-ups and worked on their opposite hand with each player, outside of left-hander Deems, taking a swing from the left side.
MERCER NOTABLES
- The Bears ranked fourth among the field with 16 birdies, behind Janiga's tournament-best nine birdies. Schanen has four birdies, while Deems has added two. Owen, playing as an individual, has also notched three birdies for Mercer.
- As a team, Mercer was at its best on par-4 holes, averaging 4.44 strokes to finish second among the 15-team field.
- Schanen climbed 13 spots into 22nd place with her second round tally of 77. She heads into the final day of action just one stroke away from her fourth straight Top-20 performance.
FINAL ROUND OF PLAY
The Bears close out the 2015 Fighting Camel Fall Classic tomorrow morning with the first tee time set for 9 a.m.
