
Tennis Classic of Macon Affected by Rain Again

MACON, Ga. -- Rain affected play for a second day at the Tennis Classic of Macon, and while play did take place, no matches were completed.
In golf they call it a "shotgun start" in wrestling it's called a "battle royale," At 4 p.m., action commenced on seven courts, some even completing a set in the Tennis Classic of Macon, a USTA Pro Circuit event taking place October 25 - November 1, 2015.
Nina Stojanovic, a 19-year old from Serbia ranked No. 287 in the world is the top seed in the qualifying draw.
Qualifying draw notables include former Wimbledon and U.S. Open doubles champion, Vania King, who posted an early qualifying win on Sunday morning with a 7-6 (5) 6-1 victory over Alyona Sotnikova of the Ukraine. King has only played a few events since being out of action for 12 months with a herniated disc in her neck. University of California player Maegan Manasse and young American players, Ingrid Neel and Michaela Gordon are also in the qualifying draw.
Play will take place on seven courts to start Wednesday with the unfinished qualifying matches. The main draw matches will start not before 11 a.m.
The W.L. Amos Sr. Foundation is the primary sponsor of this 50K event where U.S. players can earn points for the USTA's wildcard into the 2016 Australian Open.
Tournament director and Mercer University Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach Eric Hayes was frustrated with the off and on drizzle, but he's optimistic for Wednesday and beyond this week.
"It's bunching up matches a little, but when the play starts it's going to be some awesome tennis!"
Seven players paid a visit to a local Macon elementary school on Tuesday morning. The Academy for Classical Education was treated to a clinic and the chance to meet and greet professional tennis players.

Play all week will take place on the campus of Mercer University where there is easy parking and fans can come and and go as they please with a day or week pass.
