
Men's Soccer Outlasts Wofford in Overtime, 2-1

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer University men's soccer team played its second straight overtime game; this time the Bears came away with the 2-1 win, defeating Wofford on Saturday afternoon.
TURNING POINT
After a scoreless first half, Wofford scored in the 70th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Mercer equalized in the 84th minute when Conner Antley found Will Bagrou 10 yards out from the goal and Bagrou scored off the short pass. Neither team was able to put anything away in the final minutes of regulation, sending the match to overtime. Jordan Duru scored in the 92nd minute off a deflected save to end the game and give Mercer the 2-1 win.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Jordan Duru led Mercer with six shots and scored the game-winning goal just 1:35 into overtime.
STAT OF THE GAME
Despite Mercer leading in shots, 19-14, Wofford led in shots on goal, 7-4.
NOTABLES
- Will Bagrou scored his second goal of the season and the 14th of his career when he tied the game, 1-1, in the 84th minute.
- Jordan Duru also scored his second goal of the season, and the fifth of his career, when he scored the game-winning goal in the 92nd minute. It is the third game-winning goal of his career, and both of his goals this season have been game-winners.
- Conner Antley dished out his first assist of the year, while Ian Antley registered his second assist of the season. Ian Antley's assist came on Duru's goal, as Duru placed Antley's deflected shot in the back of the net.
- Jeremy Booth made six saves in goal for the Bears, including four in the first half.
- Mercer led Wofford in corner kicks, 4-2.
RECORDS UPDATE
Mercer improves to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in Southern Conference play, while Wofford moves to 6-2-1 on the season and 1-1 in league action.
UP NEXT
Mercer will continue conference play on Tuesday, Oct. 6 when it hosts Furman at Bear Field. The match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
