Men's Tennis Ekes Out 4-3 Win Over Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Mercer men's tennis team picked up a 4-3 win over Wofford on Saturday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center. The Orange and Black defeated Wofford for the first time in three seasons.
The Bears rallied to win the doubles point after falling at flight one and fighting back after Wofford had a match point at flight two.
Mercer took a 2-0 advantage when Manuel de Luis won at the number six spot (6-1, 6-1). Wofford picked up a win at spot two, but Arsav Mohanty followed it with a 6-2, 6-0 win at flight five to put the Bears up 3-1.
After a Terrier win at the number four spot, Sam Philp clinched the win for the Bears with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 victory at flight three. Wofford picked up another point with a win at the number two spot to make the final score 4-3.
"Today was another gut check win for our team," said Head Coach Eric Hayes. "We're still waiting for everyone to show up on the same day. I'm proud of the way we overcame a huge home court advantage for Wofford. The players had a lot of composure."
Next up, the Bears will face Chattanooga on Friday, April 3 at 2:00 p.m. in Chattanooga, Tenn.
