CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Mercer men's tennis team recorded its second straight sweep with a 7-0 win over The Citadel on Sunday afternoon.
"It was good to see the team click at the same time for two straight matches," said Head Coach Eric Hayes. "We are very much looking forward to playing nationally ranked ETSU at home this Friday."
Mercer won all three doubles matches to win the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead. The Bears then dominated from top to bottom in singles play, winning all six matches in two sets apiece.
With the win, Mercer improved to 11-11 on the season and 4-1 in Southern Conference play. The Bears' sweep of the Bulldogs also served as Coach Hayes' first career win over Citadel coach Chuck Kriese. Hayes was the men's assistant coach at Clemson in 1986 under Coach Kriese.
The Bears are currently third in the SoCon standings and depending on the outcomes of the final two matches, could finish anywhere in the top three in the league.
Next up, Mercer will host No. 63 ETSU on Friday, April 10 at 12:00 p.m. at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
