OREM, Utah – The Mercer University men's soccer team picked up a 1-0 win over Utah Valley on Sunday afternoon in the Holiday Inn Express Invitational. The Bears handed the Wolverines their first loss of the season to close out the tournament.
TURNING POINT
Mercer scored the only goal of the match in the 75th minute when Ian Antley headed the ball towards Carson Brooks, who drove down the left hand side of the field and crossed the ball and Jourdan Gooden headed the ball into the net.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Jourdan Gooden scored the game-winning goal for the Bears and was also tied for the team lead with two shots on the day.
STAT OF THE GAME
Mercer led Utah Valley, 13-11, in shots, but the shots on goals were even at 4-4.

- Jourdan Gooden's goal was his second of the season, and the senior currently leads Mercer with five points.
- Carson Brooks recorded his first assist of the season and the second of his career.
- Jeremy Booth anchored a Mercer defense that recorded its second shutout of the season.

Mercer will return home to face Presbyterian on Friday, Sept. 18 at 5 p.m. at Bear Field. The game will be the first of a double header, as the women's team is set to play at 7:30 p.m.
