MERCER SPOTLIGHT
Junior Sean Smothers carried the momentum of a strong second round into Tuesday, climbing 14 places on the leaderboard thanks to his second straight 2-under 70. Smothers had four birdies in the final round, including two as part of a 2-under 34 on the back nine. He finished the tournament in a tie for 38th with a total tally of 220.
THE BEARS IN THE TEAM STANDINGS
Mercer had another solid round on Tuesday with a 4-over 292, but was unable to dig itself out of the hole left by a 16-over 304 in the opening round of the tournament. The Bears finished 23-over with a score of 887 for the tournament, which was won by Auburn, the fourth-ranked team in the Golfstat.com rankings.
COACH KAYDEN'S TAKE
"Sean played really good today, he had a great tournament outside of the first nine holes. Justin finished 1-over for his best tournament of the year despite one hiccup at the end. As a team, we need to be more consistent in order to compete at the top. We were one score short again today of putting together a strong round, but I was proud of our two solid rounds to end the tournament despite some tough conditions today."
MERCER NOTABLES
- Smothers led the team with four birdies on Tuesday, followed by Connelly and Ren with three apiece.
- Connelly recorded the best finish of his career, placing 25th overall with a career-best three-round tally of 217.
