Smothers Leads Mercer in Opening Round of Seminole Intercollegiate

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Mercer University junior Sean Smothers finished the opening day of the Seminole Intercollegiate in a tie for 12th place to pace the Bears on Friday at the Southwood Golf Club.

MERCER SPOTLIGHT
Smothers finished 1-under-par with a total tally of 71 in the opening round of play, putting him on pace for his second Top-20 finish of the season. The junior tied for the team lead with five birdies on the day, while doing most of his damage on Par-5 holes with a score of 4-under in those opportunities.
THE BEARS IN THE TEAM STANDINGS
Mercer carded a score of 302 on the day's opening round, finishing 14 over par. The Bears head into the second day of action 11 strokes out of the Top 10. James Madison leads the field, while Jacksonville and Florida State round out the top three.
