Men's Golf Finishes 12th at Seminole Intercollegiate

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Mercer University sophomore Jerry Ren led a second day charge for the men's golf team, climbing 36 spots on the final day of the Seminole Intercollegiate to key the Bears' big turnaround.

MERCER SPOTLIGHT
Ren finished the tournament in 30th place, thanks in large part to an even-par 72 on today's first 18 holes and a blistering 4-under 68 in the final round. He had a total of seven birdies on Saturday, including six in the final round of play.
THE BEARS IN THE TEAM STANDINGS
Mercer dropped five strokes each round, while moving into 12th place in the team standings. The Bears saved their best for last, carding a 4-over 292 in the final round of play. No. 3 Auburn won the team title, while No. 4 Florida State and James Madison rounded out the top three.
COACH KAYDEN'S TAKE
"The guys made some improvement today. I'm very encouraged by our strong finish to the tournament, but we obviously need to get off to better starts. The win definitely played a factor for us today, but all in all we showed a lot of progress. Jerry (Ren) was fantastic this afternoon, picking up six birdies to finish 4-under."
MERCER NOTABLES
- Mercer ranked fifth among the field with scores of par on 155 holes. Ren led the way for the Bears, finishing third among all individuals with 38 holes of par.
- The Bears had a total of 38 birdies in the tournament, led by Smothers with 10 and Connelly and Ren with eight apiece.
