
Mercer Beach Volleyball Drops a Pair of Matches on Friday

FORT MEYERS, Fla. – The Mercer beach volleyball suffered two 3-2 defeats on Friday in Florida, falling to North Florida and FGCU by one set each. The Bears are now 6-6 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.
MATCH NO. 1 VS. NORTH FLORIDA
Mercer dropped its first match of the day to North Florida, as the Bears lost a heartbreaker by a final score of 3-2. The Bears recorded wins at the top of the lineup, as the No. 1 and 2 pairs each earned victories.
Tori Penrod and Emily Krogman won in three sets over the Osprey by scores of 21-6, 14-21, 15-8. The Peel sisters posted a straight-set win at the No. 2 spot, taking the match 21-17, 22-20.
The Bears were close to pulling out a victory at the No. 4 spot in a match that featured Morgan MacGilvary and Madison Kerr. After dropping the first set, the duo came back and took the second 21-12. The Mercer pair came up just short in the third, falling 15-13. The Bears lost at No. 3 and 5 in straight sets.
Mercer is now 1-9 against North Florida in the all-time series.

MATCH 2 VS. FLORIDA GULF COAST
The Peel sisters continued their impressive run of play from the first match, as the two dispatched of their opponents at the No. 2 position in straight sets by scores of 21-14, 21-9. The tandem of Otten and Johnson rebounded nicely in the second match of the day with a highly contested three-set victory by a final of 22-20, 17-21, 15-6.
Unfortunately for the Bears, they were unable to grasp the third and decisive victory on any of the other courts. Penrod and Krogman competed in both sets but were unable to pull out wins in either, as they lost 21-19, 21-17 at the No. 1 spot. Mercer's No. 4 and 5 teams also fell in straight sets.
Mercer is 5-5 against FGCU in the all-time series.
