Men's Tennis Grabs Two Wins Over The Citadel

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer University men's tennis team played a double-header with The Citadel on Saturday, picking up two wins over the Southern Conference foe.
"Today was a true character builder for our team," said Head Coach Eric Hayes. "The team was drying the courts at 8:30 a.m. and then battled the fittest team in the conference twice until 9:30 p.m. There is no softness in this Citadel team or its coach."
Only the first match of the day will count as a SoCon match, while the second match simply counts towards the overall record of each team.
In the first match, Mercer swept the doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead on the day. The Bears went on to win the first five singles matches to clinch the victory and take a 6-0 lead over the Bulldogs. The Citadel was able to grab a point after winning a three-set match at flight two.
No doubles matches were played in the second match of the day. Mercer stormed past The Citadel in the second match as well, winning the first four singles matches to seal a second win. Again, The Citadel picked up a point at flight two, but Mercer closed out the day with a win at flight three to move the final score to 5-1.
Next up, Mercer will take a short trip to face Georgia Southern in Statesboro on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
