Bears Shoot Field-Best 288, Bounce Back in Kiawah

Mercer moves up five spots with final-round 288
KIAWAH, S.C. – Mercer fired a field-best even-par 288 in the final round of the Palmetto Intercollegiate at Turtle Point Golf Course on Tuesday to finish eighth out of 17 teams.

The Bears jumped five spots after shooting a disappointing 311 in round two Monday and finished with a final card of 906 (+42). Hannah Mae Deems shot a two-under-par 70 to move into a tie for 12th place individually while Terese Romeo finished in a four-way tie for 14th place after carding a one-over-par 73 in the final round.

MERCER ON THE TEAM LEADERBOARD
Mercer's five-spot jump on the team leaderboard was the best improvement of the 17-team field Tuesday. The even-par 288 was the best single-round score by any team over three rounds of play at Turtle Point. Ole Miss (+19) captured the team title while Kennesaw State (+27) and Campbell (+29) rounded out the top three finishes.

MERCER ON THE INDIVIDUAL LEADERBOARD
Four of Mercer's five golfers improved at least five spots on the individual leaderboard, including Deems (18 spots), Schanen (15 spots) and Janiga (13 spots). After a bogey on No. 14 to start her round, Deems birdied three of the following eight holes and eventually ended with a birdie on No. 13.

Schanen notched consecutive birdies on No. 8 and 9 to counter a pair of bogeys on No. 5 and 11 to shoot even-par for the round.

UP NEXT
Home sweet home. The Bears will host 10 teams on Oct. 30-31 for the Idle Hour Collegiate Championship, held at Idle Hour Golf & Country Club. The home tournament is Mercer's fourth and final fall event.
