SAVANNAH, Ga. – Freshmen Sarah Stewart and Maddie Nunley helped lead Mercer to a 3-0 sweep (25-22, 25-12, 25-21) of Savannah State on Wednesday evening to record a win in its final nonconference match of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 (25-22) |Â Savannah State controlled the majority of the set, leading three different times. However, the Bears fought their way back to take a 17-16 lead after a kill by Emily Krogman and didn't look back as Danielle Faust finished the set win with her third kill.

Set 2 (25-12) |Â Set two opened with a 4-0 run in favor of the Bears, keyed by a kill from Sarah Stewart. The Tigers were unable to pull close due to three straight attack errors as Mercer stretch its lead out to 13 points.
Set 3 (25-21) | A 7-2 run by Savannah State to open the set was answered Mercer with a run of its own. Stewart notched another kill to put Mercer back on top, 12-10. The final point of the match was set up with an assist from Maddie Nunley to Paige Alsten, sealing the four-point set win.
NOTABLES
"It was a solid effort by everyone tonight against Savannah State," head coach Derek Schroeder said. "We got a couple freshmen [Nunley and Stewart] some significant playing time and they responded well."
RECORD UPDATE
The Mercer volleyball team (8-15, 2-8 SoCon) continues its conference schedule with two home matches against Western Carolina and UNCG, this weekend. Mercer's first match will be on Friday, Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. against Western Carolina, followed by another match at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28 against UNCG.
