QUICK HITS
• Mercer hits the road for the first time this season with a pair of mid-week games at Florida A&M.
• Mercer is looking to keep its unblemished mark alive after starting the year 7-0.
• The hot start by Mercer is the third time the Bears have started 7-0, the last time coming in 2014 and then previously in 1970.
• The Bears and the Rattlers split the four-game series last year, 2-2. Florida A&M is scheduled to return the visit to Mercer on March 21-22.
• Mercer is 125-44-1 all-time against schools from the Mid-East Athletic Conference.
• This weekend's series marks the second of three MEAC opponents for Mercer this year. The Bears have already faced Maryland Eastern Shore and Savannah State is still slated to face Mercer.
• Florida A&M is 5-2 on the year and is coming off a three-game sweep of George Washington. All three games were decided by one run while the final two went to extra innings.
King of the Hill
Mercer enters this weekend's action with a 7-0 mark and remains the only undefeated team in the Southern Conference. While that mark survived a challenge from the SEC (Georgia) and a hot-hitting Hartford team, now the Bears will be put to the test with their first road games of the season.
Â
Conference Pride
The Southern Conference has posted a 206-35 record against the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference since 1996 (entering this year).
Is It JTee Ball?
JT Thomas made the quite the collegiate debut this season and seemed like he may have been hitting off a tee. The catcher/designated hitter was 7-for-10 (.700 avg.) after the first weekend of play with five runs scored and nine RBIs. Of his seven hits, five were for extra bases with three doubles and two home runs.
It Might Be for the Whole Team
Mercer is off to a hot start this year thanks, in part, to a powerful offense that quickly came out of hibernation. Entering this week's play, Mercer was ranked in the top 10 in several categories showcasing just how tough the Bears are this year.
