Mercer Drops a Pair at Charleston Beach Classic

The Bears fall to No. 18 Tulane, UNCW
Mt. Pleasant, S.C. – Top-seeded Tori Penrod/Emily Krogman earned their second win against a nationally ranked opponent, but Mercer was defeated twice Friday by No. 18 Tulane and UNC Wilmington at the Charleston Beach Classic.
The Green Wave defeated Mercer, 4-1, in the Bears' first match of the day. Penrod and Krogman claimed a three-set victory over Tulane's No. 1 seed, but Mercer fell in the No. 2-5 seeds. Mercer, which dropped to 6-5 overall, was later defeated, 3-2, by the Seahawks.
Claire Waliczek/Danielle Faust and Demi-Shay Watchorn/Alyssa Kirkman earned wins in seeds No. 3 and No. 5 despite the Bears falling at No. 1, 2 and 4. All three of Mercer's losses against UNCW came in three sets.
