The Bears fall in 3-2 contest at #7 Georgia State
ATLANTA, Ga. – Mercer split a pair of matches at the Georgia State Day of Duals on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Jacksonville State, 4-1, before falling to the host Panthers in a tight 3-2 battle in its first loss of the 2017 season.
Both matches were held at the GSU Beach Volleyball Complex. Mercer's top four seeds all improved to 4-0 by coming away with sweeps of the Gamecocks, including a dominant 21-7, 21-11 victory for Danielle Faust and Claire Waliczek in the No. 3 seed. Gretja Otten and Morgan MacGilvary lost for their first time as a pair, going three sets in the No. 5 seed. The Bears are now 2-0 against Jacksonville State this season.
In the back end of Tuesday's pair of matches, Mercer came within one point of upsetting nationally ranked #7 Georgia State, which improved to 6-0 with its 3-2 win. Wins by Emma Peel/Sophie Peel and Jessica Johnson/Demi-Shay Watchorn in the No. 2 and No. 5 seeds kept Mercer close.
