Mercer Ends Regular Season at ETSU

Bears look to continue three-match winning streak
MACON, Ga. – Mercer (15-11, 8-7 SoCon) concludes its 2018 regular season schedule traveling to Johnson City, Tenn. to face the Bucs on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. The match will feature a live broadcast and live stats will be available.

The Bears are currently tied for third with Furman (12-14, 8-7 SoCon) in the Southern Conference Standings while ETSU (24-5, 13-1 SoCon) has locked in first place for the regular season.

Mercer trails ETSU 20-5 in its overall series and most recently falling to the Bucs (3-1) at Hawkins Arena on Oct. 12. The Bears have not defeated ETSU since 2010.

SCOUTING ETSU
Leah Clayton (3.93 kills), Braedyn Tutton (.330 hitting percentage) and Alyssa Kvarta (10.80) lead ETSU's offense, all ranking in the top three in the league. Marija Popovic, who just earned the SoCon Defensive Player of the Month of October, averages 5.34 digs per set. ETSU also has the top two leading blockers in the league- Mariah McParland (1.12) and Braedyn Tutton (1.05). The Bucs' only conference loss this season was against Samford on Sept. 28, falling to the Bulldogs 3-2 in Johnson City, Tenn.

- Mercer moved to third place in the conference standings. The Bears have not had a winning season since 2015, when they went 15-14. The Black and Orange have not had a winning conference season since 2010, when they went 6-4.
- Saturday's matches will determine the final Southern Conference standings, placing the nine teams in in the tournament bracket.
- Mercer is 9-3 at home this season, falling to only UNCG, ETSU and Furman.
- The Bears are 5-1 in five-set matches this season.
- The Black and Orange are on a three-game win-streak having defeated Chattanooga (3-0), Samford (3-2) and The Citadel (3-2).
- Mercer ranks lower than ETSU in six of the seven statistical categories, including: hitting percentage (.217), opponent hitting percentage (.185), assists (11.98), kills (12.88), blocks (1.87) and digs (14.97). The Bears rank fourth in service aces, producing 1.32 per set while the Bucs trail in last averaging 1.15.
- Maddie Nunley earned the SoCon Offensive Player of the Month for her performances in October.
- Nunley leads Mercer in assists (862). She ranks third in the league with 10.51 per set. Â
- Paige Alsten leads the Bear's offense as well as the league in hitting percentage (.342) and fifth in kills per set (3.29).
- Alsten leads the Bears in blocks, totaling 89 for the season. Alexia Morey follows closely behind, recording 82.
- Roberta Todd ranks ninth in leading attackers for averaging 2.93 kills per set.
- Emilee Wissmach ranks seventh in the SoCon with 3.46 digs per set, totaling 339 for the season.
- Brittany Major and Annie Karle have both notched double-digit kills in the last five out six matches. Roberta Todd has also registered double-digit kills in four out of the past six games.
- Megan Smith leads the Bears with 26 total service aces for the season.
