Mercer Falls to Wofford in Series-Finale Slugfest

Bears plate 10 runs on 13 hits, drop series finale
Â
The two teams combined for 24 runs and 30 hits after a two-hour rain delay pushed the series finale back to a 2 p.m. first pitch. Mercer saw its seven-game win streak snapped and sits at 19-6 overall and 2-1 in Southern Conference play.
Â
The Terriers (16-9, 1-2 SoCon) scored at least one run in each of the first five innings and jumped out to a 9-3 lead heading into the home half of the fourth by chasing Sawyer Gipson-Long, Kevin Coulter, Taylor Lobus and Tanner Hall on the mound. Mercer made it a game in the bottom of the fourth with six runs on five hits to tie it up, 9-9.
Â
After David Posas, Trey Truitt and Jackson Ware loaded the bases with one out, JT Thomas delivered a two-run single to center field to make it a four-run game. Ware scored on a wild pitch during the following at bat, which finished with a RBI double by RJ Yeager. The big inning was capped by Drew Lingo's two-run home run, tying the contest.
Â
Wofford would respond quickly, however, with three runs in the fifth. The Terriers would maintain the lead the rest of the game despite a solo home run by Alex Hanson in the seventh.
