Bears Place Ninth in Rain-Shortened Mason Rudolph Championship

Bears climbed five spots with second-round 288
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Mercer shot a second-round, even-par 288 to climb five spots and finish ninth overall at the Mason Rudolph Championship after the third round was cancelled due to heavy rain over Saturday and Sunday at the Vanderbilt Legends Club North Course.

The Bears finished 13-over-par (589) over 36 holes played. Tournament officials attempted to start the third round on Saturday before play was halted due to inclement weather. The final round was never resumed on Sunday.

Mercer's second-round 288 (even par) was the third best round in the 15-team field on Saturday. It was a strong response to a lackluster opening round that saw the Bears shoot 13-over-par (301) for 14th place. Mercer finished 10 strokes ahead of Southern Conference foe Chattanooga (+23) and only trailed ACC, SEC and Pac-12 programs in the final team standings.

Mercer on Individual Leaderboard
Three Bears shot even-par or better in Saturday's second round, including Mary Augusta Janiga and Carol Pyon, who both jumped 20 individual spots with 1-under-par 71 performances. Payton Schanen led Mercer individually, tying for 27th at 2-over-par (146) following her even-par second round.

Up Next
Mercer will take the upcoming week off from competition before heading west to Columbia, Missouri for the Johnie Imes Invitational (Oct. 1-3). The three-day tournament will be played at The Club at Old Hawthorne. Mercer played well at the Johnie Imes Invitational last year, placing sixth out of 14 teams.
