
Bears Come Up Short Against Spartans

MACON, Ga.  – The Mercer Bears volleyball team went 1-3 (22-25, 22-25, 25-20, 20-25) Friday afternoon against UNCG Spartans.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set One (22-25) | The Bears opened the match scoring five of the first seven points behind kills from Alexia Morey, Jaida Howell, and Roberta Todd. The Bears held the lead throughout the set until the Spartans tied it up at 14. From then, it was a back and forth battle. The Bears last eight points came from Spartan errors, kills from Brittany Major and Roberta Todd and a service ace from Emilee Wissmach.

Set Two (22-25) | The second set included five ties and three lead changes. The Bears went on a 9-2 run late in the set to take a three point lead. Jaida Howell recorded four kills and two blocks in the set. UNCG would retaliate by scoring seven of the last eight points to take the set. Â

Set Three (25-20) | Mercer started out slow allowing UNCG to take six of the first eight points. A four point run by the Bears would tie the set at 17. Mercer would score their last eight points behind Spartan errors and kills from Alexia Morey and Roberta Todd. Brittany Major and Alexia Morey would end the set with a team block. Â

Set Four (20-25) | The Spartans led the fourth set in its entirety scoring ten of the first thirteen points. The Bears would fight back with points from four Bears and six Spartan errors. Mercer would score four of the last six points but would fall to UNCG.

- Freshman Jaida Howell recorded thirteen kills in match, tying her third highest of the season- 15 against Western Carolina, 14 against Wofford, and 13 against Little Rock.
- Lexi Uhrhan recorded two service aces, her second highest of the season- highest was three against UT Martin.
- Senior Amber Gibson recorded ten digs, her second highest behind fourteen against Western Carolina.
