
Mercer to Face Charlotte in NCAA Tournament

First the first time since 2017, the Bears are heading back to the NCAA Tournament
MACON, Ga.  – The Mercer men's soccer team will take on Charlotte on Thursday, Nov. 21 at Charlotte, N.C. in the First Round of the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament. The match will start at 7 p.m. from Transamerica Field.

Mercer (14-6-0) claimed the Southern Conference Championship for the third time in four years, earning the league's automatic bid after beating UNCG, 1-0. The contest was played in Greensboro, N.C. at UNCG Soccer Stadium. Following the match, JR DeRose became the second player in Mercer history to earn SoCon Tournament MVP honors. He is the first since Jeremy Booth won the award in 2016 and 2017. Trevor Martineau, Leo Toledo Jr., Roberto Arteaga, and DeRose were named to the All-Tournament Team. The 14 wins ties a school record for wins in a single season.

The Bears will be making its fifth trip to the NCAA Tournament and first since 2017. The Bears reached the tournament during the 1999, 2001, 2016 and 2017 seasons. Mercer is 0-4 in the NCAA Tournament. The last time the Bears went to the NCAA Tournament, was 2017 when they fall to Coastal Carolina, 1-0.

Charlotte earned an at-large selection into the NCAA Tournament. In the last game for the 49ers, Marshall defeated Charlotte, 1-0. The 49ers (11-3-4) are led in scoring by Teddy Chaouche who scored 22 points on seven goals and eight assists on the season. Elliot Panicco anchors the team in goal, holding an 11-3-3 record with seven shutouts and a goal-against-average of 0.57. Charlotte has only allowed 11 goals in 11 matches this season. Â
