Men’s Soccer Opens SoCon Tournament Against Wofford

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's soccer will be looking for its third Southern Conference Tournament title in four years when it opens play in the SoCon Tournament on Friday. The Bears play Wofford in the Quarterfinals. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. from the Furman Soccer Field.

SERIES HISTORY | LAST MEETING
Mercer leads the all-time series, 12-3-1, over Wofford. These two teams met on Oct. 15. The Terriers came away with a 3-2 overtime victory over the Bears. The Terriers tied the match with 15 seconds left in the match and scored the winning goal a minute and a half into overtime.

NOTABLES

Mercer is looking to win its third Conference Tournament in four years. The Bears won the SoCon Tournament in 2016 and 2017. The 2016 and 2017 tournament wins are the only SoCon Tournament Titles for the Bears.
Over the last six seasons, the SoCon regular season champion has not won the SoCon Conference Tournament. The last school to win both the regular season and the conference tournament was Elon back in 2012.
In the Bears win over VMI to close out the 2019 regular season, Trevor Martineau scored four goals. The four goals he scored in the match was a career-high. His previous high was two goals score in a single contest.
Trevor Martineau ranks first in the SoCon in points, points per game, goals, goals per game, assists, assists per game, and tied for most game-winning goals. He has 33 points in 17 games. He has a SoCon high 12 goals and nine assists this season.
Trevor Martineau has tallied 58 points over his two years at Mercer, which is ninth on a career points list.
The nine assists for Martineau are fourth in the nation and his 12 goals rank him 11^th in the nation. His 33 points on the season are eighth-most in the NCAA and he is only seven points being Robbie Robinson of Clemson for the NCAA lead.
The Bears have the third-best goals-against average in the SoCon. Mercer is only allowing 1.38 goals per game this season. In 17 games, the Bears have only allowed 24 goals.

SCOUTING THE TERRIERS
The Terriers enter the SoCon Quarterfinals with a 4-12-1 record on the season. The Terriers have lost their last three matches and have been outscored 9-4 in those games. The last win for Wofford came on Oct. 22 when they shutout VMI, 3-0. Wofford as scored 24 goals this season and is averaging 1.41. Adrian Roseth leads the team with six goals this season. Roseth also has taking 51 shots this season with 17 on goal. In goal, The Terriers have played four different goalies this season. Shane Berson leads the team with 900 minutes played. They are allowing 1.90 goals per game. Wofford has pitched three shutouts.
