Mercer looking to advance to the SoCon Championship match for the first time since 2017

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's soccer faces Furman in the Southern Conference Semifinals on Sunday, Nov. 10 in Greenville, S.C., with a spot on the line for the SoCon Championship. The Bears are looking to advance to the SoCon Tournament Championship game for the first time since 2017.

SERIES HISTORY | LAST MEETING
Mercer leads the all-time series, 8-5-3, over Furman. Earlier this season, the Bears defeated Furman, 4-3, in overtime. Michael Ille scored the winning goal three minutes and 51 seconds into overtime. The loss for Furman was its only loss in SoCon play.

NOTABLES

Mercer is looking to win its third Conference Tournament in four years. The Bears won the SoCon Tournament in 2016 and 2017. The 2016 and 2017 tournament wins are the only SoCon Tournament Titles for the Bears.
Over the last six seasons, the SoCon regular season champion has not won the SoCon Conference Tournament. The last school to win both the regular season and the conference tournament was Elon back in 2012.
In the Bears win over VMI to close out the 2019 regular season, Trevor Martineau scored four goals. The four goals he scored in the match was a career-high. His previous high was two goals score in a single contest.
Trevor Martineau ranks first in the SoCon in points, points per game, goals, goals per game, assists, assists per game, and tied for most game-winning goals. He has 36 points in 18 games. He has a SoCon high 13 goals and 10 assists this season.
Trevor Martineau has tallied 61 points over his two years at Mercer, which is tied for ninth all-time in Mercer history.
The 10 assists for Martineau are third in the nation and his 13 goals rank him ninth in the nation. His 36 points on the season are second-most in the NCAA and he is only three points being Robbie Robinson of Clemson for the NCAA lead.
Martineau has scored 22 goals in his career for the Bears, which is eighth all-time.
The Bears have the third-best goals-against average in the SoCon. Mercer is only allowing 1.30 goals per game this season. In 18 games, the Bears have only allowed 24 goals. JR DeRose has five shutouts this season the most in the SoCon.

SCOUTING THE PALADINS
The Paladins enter the SoCon Semifinals with a record of 11-6-1. They finished 5-1-0 in SoCon play and won the SoCon regular season title. The last time the Paladins took to the pitch was Nov. 2 when they defeated Belmont, 2-1, to close out the regular season. Furman is averaging 2.17 goals and taking 15.6 shots per game this season. They have put 140 of its 280 shots on goal. Opponents are scoring 1.61 goals per game against Furman. Cole McLagan leads the Paladins with eight goals on the season. In goal, Max Fisher leads the way with 1355 minutes played. He has a goal against average of 1.53 and has four shutouts on the season.
