Bears Close Out Tournament with Win against Tigers

Mercer defeated Tennessee State 3-1
NEW ORLEANS, La.  –  The Mercer Bears volleyball squad defeated the Tennessee State Tigers 3-1 (25-23, 25-19, 18-25, 25-17) to close out the New Orleans Tournament where they went 2-1 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set One (25-23) |Mercer and Tennessee State went back and forth in the first set. The Bears went on a 7-2 run with a few Tiger errors and kills by Alexia Morey and Annie Karle. Both teams fought to the end and the Bears took it on a Brittany Major kill.

Set Two (25-19) | The Bears went into the second set with energy from the first going on an 8-3 run late in the set to build a lead between them and the Tigers. Mercer didn't let up and ended the set with a error by Tennessee State.

Set Three (22-25) | Mercer went down early and tried to claw their way back but Tennessee State went on a 8-2 run to end the set. Brittany Major had 4 kills and a service ace.

Set Four (25-17) | Mercer went into the last set looking to end the match. Brittany Major led the team in kills to improve the Bears lead. Mercer went on to win the set and match on a Tennessee State service error.

The Bears head to Martin, Tennessee for the SkyHawk Invitational to battle Little Rock, UT Martin, and Evansville Friday Sept. 20 and Saturday Sept. 21.
