JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Mercer women's volleyball team lost both matches at the UNF Invitational against Wake Forest and East Carolina Friday in UNF Arena.

The Bears lost against Wake Forest in straight sets with scores of 18-25, 15-25, and 15-25. They won the first set against ECU but lost the next three 25-20, 19-25, 20-25, 20-25.

MERCER VS WAKE FOREST
Set One (18-25) | After coming out of the gates strong, the Bears scratched their back within five before the Deacons finished the set with a kill. Annie Karle had … kills and a service ace.

Set Two (15-25) | Wake Forest came back even stronger I the second set, going on an 11-2 run. The Bears tried to come back, but even with kills from Roberta Todd and Alexia Morey, it wasn't enough.

Set Three (15-25) | It was a back-and-forth battle between the Bears and the Deacons. . Mercer kept it within two for the majority of the match, but Wake Forest went on a 12-5 run to close out the set and the match.

MERCER VS EAST CAROLINA
Set One (25-20) | The Bears raced out to 16-11 lead in the first set behind a few Annie Karle kills and Alexia Morey blocks. The Pirates tried to make a comeback but the Bears went on a 3-0 run to claim the set by five.

Set Two (19-25) | Mercer went ahead in the second set but went down 12-14 in the middle of the set. The Pirates started making a run and created some separation. They eventually went on to win the set by six to tie the match.

Set Three (20-25) | The Bears made some errors in the third set to give ECU an 8-6 lead. A few more attacking errors made it 15-10 ECU. The Bears tried to comeback but couldn't and eventually lost the set on a Pirate kill.

Set Four (20-25) | The Pirates kept the fourth set close, going up 10-9, but a Pirate ace continued the run. ECU went up 20-15 and eventually closed out the set and the match.

UP NEXT
The Bears will play North Florida tomorrow at 2 p.m. to close out the UNF Invitational.
