The Bears return to Five Star Stadium for Homecoming next Saturday against Abilene Christian at 3 p.m.
The Bears once again opened the scoring in the game as Caleb Dowden drilled a field goal from 36 yards to give the visitors a 3-0 lead. Mercer utilized a 15 play, 56-yard drive to take the early lead, converting each of its first three third downs of the game.
Army took the lead on the ensuing possession with a 53-yard touchdown pass from Cade Ballard to Tyrell Robinson. The Black Knights capitalized on a Mercer turnover and scored their second touchdown of the game on a one-yard run by Sandon McCoy early in the second quarter to make it 14-3. He added his second touchdown of the game with a minute remaining in the first half to make it a 21-3 game. The home team threatened again before the half after Jon Rhattigan returned an interception 50 yards to the Mercer 22, but a 39-yard field goal attempt by Landon Salyers missed wide left to keep it an 18-point game at halftime.
The Black Knights continued their attack in the second half as they hung on to win the game.
