
Mercer Football Captains Announced

Campbell, Devezin, Frost, D. Johnson and Wise selected as team captains
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer University football team has announced its 2020 captains. Serving as captains for the Bears will be senior Tyray Devezin, redshirt-junior Harrison Frost, junior Michael Campbell, and sophomores Deondre Johnson and Lance Wise.

"I am proud of our young men who were elected captains by their teammates," remarked head coach Drew Cronic. "These players have bought into the new coaching staff and new culture and have done a great job leading and taking on added responsibilities. They all are good football players, and I am proud of their leadership and what they are going to do in the future for our program."
Tyray Devezin
The senior running back from Woodstock, Ga., has appeared in 32 games as a Bear and rushed for 1,986 yards in his career. During the 2019 season, Devezin became the second Bear to record 1,000 rushing yards in a season. He is 14 yards away from becoming the fourth player in program history to rush for over 2,000 yards. Devezin rushed for a career-high 193 yards against VMI last season and holds the school record for most rushing touchdowns in a contest with four. Last season he served as the team captain five times.

Harrison Frost
The Kennesaw, Ga. native, enters his redshirt-junior season as a Bear. The six-foot-one quarterback has appeared in 18 games for Mercer. Throughout his career, Frost is 40-for-90 with 546 passing yards and five touchdowns. He passed for a season-high 92 yards last season at North Carolina. During his redshirt-freshman season, Frost had a passer rating of 91.8 and completed 34-of-90 passes for 445 yards and three touchdowns. During the 2018 season, he had a season-high 186 yards vs. ETSU.

Michael Campbell
Cornerback Michael Campbell enters his junior season as a Bear. Over his first two years, he appeared in 15 games in the defensive backfield. He tallied 10 tackles during the 2019 season and recorded a season-high three stops at ETSU. Campbell recorded a career-best five tackles vs. ETSU during his freshman campaign.

Deondre Johnson
Deondre Johnson, a redshirt-sophomore, earns a captain spot for the 2020 season. Last season, he appeared in seven games and tallied 75 rushing attempts. He rushed for 459 yards on the season, the second-most on the team. Johnson rushed for a career-high 177 yards against Campbell, which is the fifth-most rushing yards in a contest for the Bears. Against Chattanooga in 2019, Johnson recorded the longest kick return in program history when he took one 98 yards for a touchdown.

Lance Wise
Lance Wise, a sophomore, earns his first captain honors as a Bear. In his first season in the Orange and Black, Wise appeared in all 12 contests and recorded 30 tackles. The safety from Marietta, Ga., scored his first collegiate touchdown at The Citadel on a 41-yard fumble recovery. He had one pass deflection, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery on the season.

Mercer's season opener is scheduled for Saturday at Jacksonville State. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. ET.
