Bears Tied for Third After Day One at Mercer Invite

Lauren Lightfritz matched her career low of 68 (-4) in the first round

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's golf team capped its first day at the Mercer Invitational by tying for third place after two rounds at the Brickyard Golf Club.

Lauren Lightfritz led the way for the Bears as she is tied for third at 1-over par. The Suwanee, Ga., native led after the first round as she carded a 4-under par 68 with a clean card to match her career low for a single round.

Mercer had three players finish in the top 13 with Payton Schanen (7th) and Tracy Rodriguez (T-13th) joining Lightfritz.

COACH DRINKARD'S TAKE
"I'm pleased with how we started the first round. From the last tournament to this one, I really wanted to make it a point to getting started from the first hole we played. I thought the girls really did a good job with that. We lost a little bit in the second round, but, overall, I'm really pleased with how we played. The process was good, and they handled the 10-12 mile-per-hour wind really well today.

"Lauren [Lightfritz] played especially well from tee-to-green, and made a lot of puts that allowed her to tie her career low at 68. She got into some trouble in the second round which is why her score didn't reflect as low as she wanted to. But I'm really proud of how she played today. We will look to finish the tournament and our fall season strong tomorrow."

Mercer closes out its fall 2020 slate with the third round of the Mercer Invitational at the Brickyard Golf Club on Tuesday. The Bears will tee off from 9:20-10 a.m. at the 1st tee alongside Western Kentucky and Chattanooga. Laura Pasalodos will tee off at 9:10 a.m. from the 10th tee alongside individuals from Coastal Carolina and Western Kentucky.
