
Greg Gary, Kim Lewis Inducted Into Tulane Athletics Hall of Fame
The pair enters the HOF as members of the 1991-92 Green Wave basketball team

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Mercer head basketball coach Greg Gary and assistant coach Kim Lewis will enter the Tulane Athletics Hall of Fame alongside their teammates from the 1991-92 Green Wave squad, which made history with a trip to the NCAA tournament.
The 1991-92 team became the first squad in Tulane men’s basketball history to earn a bid to the NCAA tournament. The team didn’t let the story stop there, however, as they topped St. John’s, 61-57, to advance to the Round of 32.
To get to the NCAA Tournament, the Green Wave put together a stellar regular season with contributions from both Gary and Lewis.
Tulane opened the season with 13 consecutive wins en route to a 22-9 overall finish. The team was ranked as high as No. 13 in the USAToday Coaches Poll and No. 14 in the Associated Press Poll.

Gary played three seasons in New Orleans and averaged 5.0 points per game during the 1991-92 season. He graduated as the school’s all-time leader in assists with 370 and had a 1.97 assist-to-turnover ratio, placing him second in the Green Wave’s record books.
For his career, Gary played in 87 games and averaged 6.3 points and 4.3 assists per game. He shot an impressive 43 percent from three-point range and was consistent at the charity stripe, making 82.2 percent of his free throws.
After his playing days, Gary began his coaching career with the Green Wave and was an assistant coach from 1993-97 and 1998-200. He helped the team to one NCAA Tournament and four National Invitational Tournaments.

Lewis, who is now an assistant on Gary’s squad was honored with NABC All-District and Second Team All-Metro Conference recognition. He averaged 15.4 points per game to lead the 1991-92 team. The honors for Lewis came in his sophomore year and bolstered his already impressive resume which featured the 1991 Metro Conference Freshman of the Year Trophy.
Throughout his time with Tulane, Lewis led the program to 78 wins and scored 1,384 points while setting the career-record for steals with 242. He was voted the T-Club Male Athlete of the Year in 1994-95.
Lewis began his coaching career with the Green Wave from 1996-98 and helped the squad to two NIT appearances.
