Lance Wise Named SoCon Defensive Player Of The Week

MACON, Ga. – After a dominant performance in the Mercer win over Western Carolina, Lance Wise has been named SoCon Defensive Player of the week.

Wise did a bit of everything for the Bears in the win. He tied for the team lead with eight tackles and six solo tackles, with one being a tackle for loss. The Bears safety also forced a fumble and had a big interception. Wise's interception proved to be a turning point in the game when he picked off the pass with just over six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and returned it 56 yards to the one-yard line. Mercer would score of the very next play to take a ten-point advantage.

The Marietta, GA native is third on team in tackles this season with 24, including 14 solo tackles.

Wise and the rest of the Bears will be back in action on Saturday, October 16 at Five Star Stadium against VMI. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
