Mercer completes victory over UNCG
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears defeat the UNCG Spartans in four sets. After being tied in conference standings, the win over the Spartans give the Bears sole possession of the first place title.

Set One (25-17)Â | The first set started with a 6-0 run from the Spartans before a kill from Rayanne de Oliveira would put the Bears on the board, 6-2. Later, a 3-0 started with a kill from Brittany Major and included a block by Jaida Howell and Agnieska Paskevic and a kill from Karle would allow the Bears to stay within two, 9-7. Single points would be traded before the Spartans went on another run of the three extending their lead to five, 15-10. The Bears answered with a run of their own. Within this run, de Oliveira recorded a service ace and Major and Howell registered a block, 15-14. The Spartans would extend their one-point lead to four after recording three additional unanswered points, 18-14. The Spartans continued their run with four more points, 22-15, before a final kill and block allowed them to take set one, 25-17.
Set Two (25-20)Â | De Oliveira would be the first to get the Bears on the board again in the second set. Points would be traded between the teams before the Bears went on an eight-point run to take a four-point lead, 11-7. This run started with a kill by Annie Karle and was followed by a kill from Howell and service ace from Major. Karle and Howell registered a block together and Paskevic recorded a kill. The Spartans would go on a run of four to tie the game at 12. A 4-1 run from the Bears would allow the Bears to take a three-point lead, 16-13. Karle recorded two kills and a block with de Oliveira who also recorded a solo block within this run. Points were traded before a final 5-1 run closed the set in favor of the Bears. Karle and de Oliveira recorded two kills each and a block together.
Set Three (25-19)Â | Kills from Taylor Lynch and Major would get the Bears on the board in set three. A kill from Major would start a 5-0 run for the Bears to give them a three-point lead, 8-5. Howell would record two kills along with a service ace from Major in another run of four by the Bears, 12-7. The Bears and Spartans traded runs of three with a kill from Karle and Paskevic and a block by Karle and de Oliveira giving the Bears a five-point lead, 15-10. The Bears would take set three with the last 10 points coming from kills by Karle (2), Major (2), de Oliveira, Lynch, Howell, and Paskevic. Major recorded a solo block as well.
Set Four (25-14)Â | A block by de Oliveira and Lynch would start the fourth set. De Oliveira would record another block with Major to take an early lead of 3-2. The Spartans would take the lead after a run of three before a kill from Lynch and a block by Howell and Lynch tied the set at five. The Spartans would score four answered points to take a four-point lead but the Bears immediately answered with a run of four of their own. Howell recorded the first two points of the run with back-to-back kills allowing the Bears to take the lead, 11-10. The Bears would go on a 9-0 burner to extend their lead to 10, 22-12. The first four points were by kills from Karle and de Oliveira and a service ace from Paskevic. The next five would be from two blocks by Lynch and de Oliveira, two kills from de Oliveira, and a kill by Karle. The Bears would close the set with a final run of three with two back-to back kills from de Oliveira and the last one from Major.
