Mercer loses to Samford
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears were defeated by the Samford Bulldogs in three sets.
MERCER VS. SAMFORD

Set One (25-23)Â | The first set started with a kill from Annie Karle. The Bulldogs would take a two-point lead before kills by Rayanne de Oliveira and Brittany Major tied the set at four. The Bulldogs responded with a 4-0 run to take the lead by four, 8-4. The Bears responded, going on a seven-point streak including three kills from Jaida Howell and two from Karle. This run would give the Bears a two-point lead, 12-10. Points would be traded but three separate runs of three from the Bulldog gave them a five-point advance late in the first set, 24-19. A few errors and kills by Karle and Agnieska Paskevic would put the Bears within one, 23-24 before a final kill by the Bulldogs gave them set one.
Set Two (25-22)Â | Although the Bears would not be the first on the board, they would be second and record five points in a row, 5-1. Â Taylor Lynch and de Oliveira registered kills along with a block solo from Major. The Bulldogs would enter a 5-1 run to tie the set at six. The teams would trade but kills from Howell (2), Karle, and a block sol by Paskevic would but the Bears up by two, 11-9. The game would be tied seven more ties with a 5-1 run from the Bulldogs putting them ahead by four, 24-20. Â An error and block by Mykole Morgan and Jaida Howell would bring the Bears within two, 24-22 but the Bulldogs would take the second set with a kill immediately after.
Set Three (25-21)Â | Â The Bears would start on a 5-1 run before the Bulldogs recorded five of their own in a row, 6-5. The set remained close, with six tie scores, but the Bulldogs would enter a streak of five points to take the lead, 15-11. Kills by de Oliveira, Major, and Howell, a block by Howell and Lynch, and a service ace by Megan Smith contributed in keeping the game close. Kills by Karle, Lynch, and Major would bring the game within two, 17-15. The teams traded a few pairs of scoring back and forth with Howell aiding the offensive recorded four kills, 23-19. An error and block assist by Lynch and de Oliveira would be Mercer's final points, 25-21.
