Tyler Copp won the individual title and led Mercer to a first-place finish
SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Mercer men's golf team ran away with the team title at the Invitational at Savannah Harbor, winning by 12 strokes as senior Tyler Copp (-7) claimed the individual crown on Sunday.
Â
Mercer carried its success from day one into the second day that starting with the completion of the second round. The Bears finished the second round with a score of 284 as a team before closing out the tournament with a 294 in the third round. Mercer looked strong throughout the entire tournament as it had the lowest score in both the second and third rounds and was one stroke off of the best first-round score.
Â
Indivually, four Bears finished in the top-17 led by Copp. The Ann Arbor, Mich., native claimed his first career tournament championship, beating the field by three strokes. He finished the tournament at 7-under par and was the only player to shoot under par in all three rounds. It was the fifth top-10 finish for Copp in his Mercer career and second top-5 finish this year after he took fourth at the JT Poston Invitational.

Additionally, Martin Plukka, Jonathan Parker and Lino Galdin all finished tied for 13th at 3-over par.

COACH KAYDEN'S TAKE
"The guys played great down the stretch. It was a phenomenal performance, especially on the last nine holes where we were 6-under par as a team. It was a roller-coaster ride finish, especially with the high wind, but we really had some clutch performances from all of the guys that led us to the victory. The wind was very high today and, for the most part, we dealt with that really well.
Â
"I'm very proud of Tyler [Copp]. He played some phenomenal golf this weekend. To shoot 1-under par in the conditions we played in today with the pins in tough positions and the wind was really impressive. I'm so excited for hm to have a college victory. Not a lot of golfers get to experience a win a college tournament, so this is pretty special for Tyler to win in his final semester."

Up Next
Mercer returns to action on March 1-2 as the team travels to The Falls Golf Club in Palm Beach, Fla., for the Southern Invitational, hosted by Loyola (Md.).
