
Schanen Claims Title at Reynolds Lake Oconee Invite

Payton Schanen earned the second outright tournament title of her career
GREENSBORO, Ga. – Graduate student Payton Schanen of the Mercer women's golf team claimed the individual title as the Bears took home third at the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational on Sunday.

Schanen, who shot 1-over par for the tournament,  earned the second outright tournament title of her career and first since the FGCU Eagle Invitational from Feb. 12-14, 2016, as a freshman. This is the third time Schanen finished with the lowest score at an event after earning co-champion honors at the 2017 Idle Hour Collegiate Championship. Additionally, it was the sixth top-5 finish of her career and the ninth event where she finished in the top-10.

As a team, the Bears finished four strokes behind North Florida and two behind Old Dominion. Â Â

Mercer returns to action from next weekend as the Bears head to the Seminole Legacy Golf Club in Tallahassee, Fla., for the Florida State Match-Up. The three-day tournament begins on Friday and concludes on Sunday.
