Baseball Hosts Marshall for First Time Since 2005

Mercer and Marshall are set to square off in a three-game set starting Friday
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer University baseball team welcomes Marshall to Macon, Ga. and OrthoGeorgia Park for a three-game set. The series opener is set for Friday night at 6 p.m.

Scouting Marshall
Marshall comes in with a record of 1-3 on the season and has dropped its last three games. The Thundering Herd opened the season with a 3-1 win over Morehead State before dropping the final two of the series. The last time Marshall took the field was March 9 when they were defeated, 2-1, by Eastern Kentucky.

Only four games in, Marshall has three players hitting over .350 this season. Luke Edwards leads the team with a .429 batting average. He has six hits this season with four going for extra-base hits. Geordon Blanton (.400) and Ryan Leitch (.353) lead the team in RBI with four apiece. As a team, Marshall is hitting .244 on the season with four home runs.

As a pitching staff, Marshall holds an ERA of 4.76 with 41 strikeouts to only 13 walks. Friday night starter Raymond Pacella and Sunday start Zac Addkison, lead the team with 5.0 innings pitched. Batting Practice
- For the first time since the 2005 season, Marshall and Mercer will meet on the baseball field. Mercer holds a 4-2 series lead and have won the last three meetings. All the meetings have taken place in Macon.
- In Wednesday's victory over Florida A&M, the Bears saw their bats get hot. Mercer collected a season-high 16 hits in the game.
- Sophomore Jackson Kelley was named SoCon Pitcher of the Week on Monday. He tossed 7.1 innings on the season and only allowed one run and four hits to No. 14 South Carolina. He tallied five punch outs, including two on Wes Clarke.
- The Bears' bullpen has been dominate this season and Wednesday was no different. The pen threw seven innings of two hit ball on Wednesday night. Tommy Green and Will Bowdoin led the team with three strikeouts in the game.
- The Bears have hit 12 home runs on the season with eight coming in their series against Southern Illinois. Seven different players have hit a home run this season. Ryan Archibald leads the team with three home runs.
- Mercer was picked to finish second in the 2021 Preseason SoCon Coaches and Media Polls. The Bears were picked behind Samford in both polls.
- The Bears lead the Southern Conference with 26 doubles this season, which ranks 17th in the NCAA. Mercer is averaging 2.4 doubles per game, the 22nd best mark. Ten different Bears have hit a double, and the team is led by Angelo DiSpigna, who has seven.
- Yeager has started every game at shortstop since he arrived on campus as a freshman. He has currently started 151 consecutive games.
- Mercer is one of just four NCAA Division I programs to win at least 35 games in each of the past 10 full seasons, joining LSU, Florida State and Vanderbilt.
- Since 2010, the Bears are the winningest Division I baseball program in the state of Georgia. The Bears have won 398 games, seven more wins than Georgia Tech who is second on the list.
