Lino Galdin is tied for ninth after first round at Great Waters

GREENSBORO, Ga. – Senior Lino Galdin of the Mercer men's golf team led the Bears and is tied for ninth place after the first round of the Linger Longer Invitational at Reynolds Lake Oconee – Great Waters on Friday.

Galdin recorded four birdies on the round, all of which came from the sixth to 11th holes.

While the Bears are tied for 11th out of 16 teams after the first day, they are by no means out of contention. Mercer's first round 297 is only eight shots behind Memphis, who is currently in fifth place, and 10 shots away from joining Florida Gulf Coast and High Point in a tie for third place.

COACH KAYDEN'S TAKE
"It was a little bit of a struggle for us today. The guys just made a couple of high numbers which is easy to do out here at Great Waters. It was playing pretty firm, and the biggest thing we talked to the team about was being able to bounce back tomorrow. Golf is going to do that to you once in a while when things aren't going your way, but when things don't go your way, you need to hit the reset button and focus on the next day.

"We got a great day out of Lino [Galdin]. He led us at 2-under par, hit a lot of fairways and just played solid all day long. Hitting your tee ball in play is an important aspect of this golf course, and Lino did a great job with that."

Mercer resumes play at the Linger Longer Invitational on Saturday as play for the second round is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. The Bears' five scoring players will tee off between 8:35 a.m. and 9:11 a.m. on the 10th tee box, while individuals Daniel McKenzie will begin their rounds at 10:05 a.m. and 10:14 a.m., respectively.
