Mercer Game Notes

The Bears and Rattlers will square off in a two game series

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer University baseball team heads to Tallahassee, Fla., to face Florida A&M on Tuesday and Wednesday. Both games are slated for a 4 p.m. start at Moore-Kittles Field.

Batting Practice

For the second time this season, Mercer and Florida A&M will square off, this time in Tallahassee, Fla. Mercer and Florida A&M will play a two-game set and the Bears first games of the season in Florida.
The Bears will be looking for their ninth straight win against Florida A&M on Tuesday.
The last time these two teams met, March 10, Mercer collected a season-high 16 hits in the game.
Graduate Transfer Garett Delano was named SoCon Pitcher of the Week on Monday. He tossed seven innings against Marshall in his first start as a pitcher for Mercer. He tallied a career-high 11 punch outs in the 3-1 win.
Fans keep an eye out for Delano this season. Not only can you see him making appearances on the mound, but he also plays infield for Mercer when he isn't pitching. He is hitting .333 with two home runs and five RBI.
Redshirt Senior Brandon Michie is starting to heat up at the plate. Over the last four games for Mercer, Michie was 8-for-14. He had two home runs on Sunday, which is the first multi-homer game of the season. He drove in seven runs and leads Mercer with 14 RBI on the season.
Mercer was picked to finish second in the 2021 Preseason SoCon Coaches and Media Polls. The Bears were picked behind Samford in both polls.
The Bears lead the Southern Conference with 30 doubles this season, which ranks 28th in the NCAA. Mercer is averaging 2.1 doubles per game, the 39th best mark. Ten different Bears have hit a double, and the team is led by Angelo DiSpigna, who has seven.
RJ Yeager has started every game at shortstop since he arrived on campus as a freshman. He has currently started 154 consecutive games.
Mercer is one of just four NCAA Division I programs to win at least 35 games in each of the past 10 full seasons, joining LSU, Florida State and Vanderbilt.
Mercer is one of two schools, along with Minnesota, to only have three coaches since the 1948 season.
Since 2010, the Bears are the winningest Division I baseball program in the state of Georgia. The Bears have won 399 games, seven more wins than Georgia Tech who is second on the list.

Scouting Florida A&M
The Rattlers come into the contest with the Bears with a 3-12 mark on the season. After Mercer gave the Rattlers their 12^th straight loss, Florida A&M swept Grambling State over the weekend at Coolray Field in Atlanta.

Leading the Rattlers at the plate is Joseph Pierini, who is hitting .286 on the season. He has 10 hits in 35 at-bats with one extra-base hit. Grant Rowell leads the team with two home runs and seven RBI this season.

The Rattlers pitching staff holds an ERA of 6.58. Zach Morea leads the team with six appearances this season. Morea has pitched six innings and holds an ERA of 6.00. Following Morea, the Rattlers have four pitchers that have appeared in five games. Out of the four pitchers, Benjamin Krizen has the lowest ERA with an ERA of 4.50. Teams are hitting .301 against the Rattlers staff this season.
