Martin Plukka is tied for sixth after the first two rounds

GREENSBORO, Ga. – The Mercer men's golf team completed the first two rounds of the Southern Conference Championship at Reynolds Lake Oconee – Oconee course on Monday.

The Bears were led by junior Martin Plukka, who sits tied for sixth place after carding a 2-under par 70 in the second round. Senior Tyler Copp also shot 2-under in the second round and is tied for ninth place at 1-over par heading into the final round.

COACH KAYDEN'S TAKE
"We got off to a slow start in the first round and didn't play the par fives very well. That's one of the keys to these college golf tournaments is making birdies with wedges in our hands on those holes.

"Martin played well in the first round and all day, and I'm very proud of his efforts. He's put himself in a good position on the leaderboard, and so has Tyler. They both have a great opportunity tomorrow to have a nice finish at the conference tournament.

We had a good, solid second round, particularly on the final nine holes. We sank some more putts to score some birdies on the final nine to make a build some momentum for tomorrow. We're going to continue to play hard and compete through the final hole tomorrow and look to move up some spots."

Up Next
The Bears will close out the Southern Conference Tournament with the final round of the tournament on Tuesday. Mercer will tee off from 9:25-10:05 a.m. at the 10th tee box.
