Bears lose to the Terriers in four sets
MACON, Ga.  – The Mercer Bears suffered their first conference loss to the Wofford Terriers, 3-1.
"Tough one today," stated Head Coach Dex Schoeder. "Wofford came in hard and played very well. We managed to push back a few times but they had answers in their consistency. Looking forward to this week of practice after this weekend.
MERCER VS. WOFFORD

Set One (25-19)Â | Agnieska Paskevic recorded a service ace to begin set one. Following a 3-0 run from Wofford, kills from Brittany Major and Taylor Lynch would tie the game at four. The teams traded points before three straight kills from Annie Karle, Rayanne de Oliveira, and Major put the Bears within one, 13-12. The Terriers held onto their lead before back-to-back kills from Karle put the Bears within two, 20-18. Karle would register an additional kill before the Terriers went on a 4-0 run to close the set, 25-19.
Set Two (25-23)Â | A kill from Taylor Lynch would start the second set. Kills from de Oliveira, Lynch (2), and Major gave the Bears a two-point lead, 5-3. Blocks from Paskevic, de Oliveira (2), and Karle would keep the Bears in the lead, 8-6. The next seven Mercer points included kills from Karle, de Oliveira, Lynch, and Major as well as blocks from Major and Howell, 15-14. Later in the set, the Bears would go on a 5-0 run, extending their lead to five. The Terriers answered going on a run of six, taking a lead of one. Kills from Lynch, Major, and Howell put the Bears back within one, before a final block from Karle and Howell finished the set, 25-23.
Set Three (25-18)Â | Lynch started the set off again for Mercer with a kill. A kill from de Oliveira would end the terriers, 5-0 run, 5-2. De Oliveira would continue to work offensively, ending another 5-0 run from the terriers, making the score 10-4. The Bears would eventually go on a run of their own, 4-0, with Karle leading the way with two kills, 12-9. The next 3-0 run from the Bears included Karle again and Lynch with a kill and a block assist (de Oliveira), 14-13. The Terriers responded with three separate runs of two, three, and two. Kills from de Oliveira (2) and a kill and block from Howell would keep Mercer within five, 22-17. A Mercer service error ended the set, 25-18.

Set Four (25-23) | Despite trailing by five in the beginning of the fourth set, the Bears did not go down easy. Two separate runs of three and four put the Bears within one, 8-7. De Oliveira led these rallies, totally three points (2 kills, one service ace). The teams traded points in sets of three before a Mercer run of three gave them a three-point lead, 15-12. The Terriers went on a 4-0 run giving them the lead before a kill from Howell tied the game at 19. The Bears and the Terriers traded points back and forth but in the end the Terriers prevailed.
