Payton Sets Mercer Record For Passing Touchdowns In A Season

Payton's three touchdown passes last week gave him 24 on the season

MACON, Ga. - Quarterback Fred Payton set a Mercer school record for most passing touchdowns in a season with 24 after he threw three touchdown passes last week at No. 8 Chattanooga.

The school record most passing touchdowns in a season had been 21, set by John Russ in 2013. Payton broke the record on a second quarter 39-yard touchdown pass to Devron Harper. It was the first of two touchdown passes to Devron Harper in the game as Ty James had the other receiving touchdown from Payton.

Payton's 24 passing touchdowns on the season are the most in the SoCon and third most in the FCS.
